Welcome to MadsOnline.net

Our goal is to provide Mads fans with as much information as we can without them having to spend hours scouring the 'net.

Some areas are still under construction, but we will be updating as regularly as possible. If you have any suggestions or information you would like to share, you can find our email address on the Contact page.

While Mads Mikkelsen is well known in his native Denmark, most of the world discovered him after his portrayal of Le Chiffre in the 2006 James Bond movie, Casino Royale or more recently as Draco in Clash of the Titans (2010). I first noticed him in the 2004 production of King Arthur, in which he played Tristan, the lone scout with the deadly aim. From there I made it a point to find out more and was increasingly impressed with each new role I discovered.

So my friends and I have decided to dedicate this site to the gifted Mr. Mikkelsen and share our admiration with fellow fans who appreciate his talents as much as we do. (And maybe pull a few more into the Madsness while we're at it!)

Recent Updates

11/22/11 ~

I've not had much time for Mr. Mikkelsen this year, but I couldn't let today go by without wishing Mads a Happy Birthday! While I am here I will add a few updates I've been meaning to post.

• Of course, I'm sure most of you have seen The Three Musketeers by now. It was released worldwide last month. You can find the Official Site here. To be honest, I wasn't very impressed with it. I've always loved the story, but this retelling was missing the magic that I expect with The Three Musketeers, and even Mads couldn't save it. But the costumes were amazing and it was good to see Mads working with Ray Stevenson and Til Schweiger again.

• Mads filmed A Royal Affair (En Kongelig Affære) in the spring, which is scheduled for release in March 2012. It is the story of the love affair between German physician Johann Friedrich Struensee (Mads) and Danish Queen Caroline Mathilde, an English princess who at 15 was married to Denmark's King Christian VII. Check out the Official Trailer.

• Filming should be done on the French film Michael Kohlhaas in which Mads plays the title character, a horse merchant who turns rebel against the established order of 16th century Germany. It is adapted from the 1811 novella by Heinrich von Kleist, which was based on a true story. I've found no release date for this one yet.

• Mads name has also been attached to a few other upcoming films:
  Jagten - a Danish drama about a recent divorcé in a small rural town accused of abusing a small child.
  Voice from the Stone - a thriller starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, a nurse comes to the aid of a boy haunted by malevolent forces.
  War Below Zero - co-starring Til Schweiger. They play two meteorologists, a Dane and a German, posted to Greenland during WWII.
  The Stolen - an adventure set in 1860's New Zealand.
We'll have to wait and see how many of these make it to the screen.

03/26/11 ~

• First of The Three Musketeers trailers has been released! Looks like Mads has a nice fight scene on the roof-tops. See it on the News & Interviews page.

03/20/11 ~

• First off, I want to apologize for my absence and lack of updates for the last few months. My real job has been a real pain, but steps have been taken to improve that and I hope to get back on track with the things I enjoy doing. I had already decided to end the monthly calendars, but in it's place, I will be uploading the occasional wallpaper to share with you. I'm also thinking of doing a re-design of the site. After three years, I think we are in need of a little face lift. So stay tuned, in the next couple months for a a new look.

• Valhalla Rising and Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky are both available on Amazon.com in Region 1 format.

• Not sure, if you've realized it, but the release date for The Three Musketeers has been pushed from April to October 14, 2011. I was wondering why we haven't seen a trailer yet for it. I did find some behind-the-scenes video. Not much Mads in it but I will post it on the News & Interviews page.

• Variety reports that Mads "is in advanced negotiations" to play the title character in the planned French production of Michael Kohlhaas. The film is schedule to begin filming in May 2011 in Cevennes,

• Finally getting around to posting a couple videos. The first is a Behind the Moomins clip with interviews from Mads and co-stars Alexander Skarsgård, Stellan Skarsgård, Helena Mattsson, and Peter Stormare talking about the animated feature Moomins and the Comet Chase. The other is an advertisement Mads did for a Star Tour resort in Thailand.

10/09/10 ~

• Congrats to Deirdre in Florida - our winner of the Valhalla Rising DVD. Hope you enjoy it, Deirdre!

• Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky is now available for pre-order from Amazon UK. It is scheduled for release, appropriately enough, on November 22nd. (Mads' birthday, in case you didn't know.)

• Valhalla Rising will be released in the US the following week on November 30th, and is available for pre-order from Amazon US.

09/12/10 ~

• Mads is currently filming the new 3D version of The Three Musketeers in Germany and we have the first stills from the set on the News & Interviews page.

• Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky is available for pre-order from amazon.com. It is scheduled for release on September 28th. No release date yet in the UK that I'm aware of.

• I've uploaded a ton of screencaps from Clash of the Titans and After the Wedding to the galleries that Maria has so kindly taken the time to do.

• Maria has also translated a review about Flame & Citron that was featured in the Argentina newspaper, Clarin Espectaculos in June. You can read it on the News & Interviews page.

• I've also added a synopsis to the Valhalla Rising page, written by staff member Jacqui.

• Which brings me to our next bit of news...a Valhalla Rising DVD giveaway!

Apologies for the lack of updates...between internet issues and just life in general, this site was pushed to the back burner. Hopefully all is resolved and I can continue with regular updates. Now for the Mads news:

• Clash of the Titans is now available on DVD & Blu-ray. You can order from Amazon.com and Amazon UK. The Blu-ray version includes an alternate ending which you can find here.

• Mads was honored with lifetime achievement CineMerit awards at this year's Munich Film Festival, which ran June 25 – July 3. Here's a couple photos from the event:

06/01/10 ~

• Clash of the Titans will be out on DVD on July 27th and is available for pre-order at Amazon.com and Amazon UK.

• Looks like Orlando Bloom has joined the cast of the new Three Musketeers movie as the Duke of Buckingham and Juno Temple is in negotiations to play Queen Anne. Several sources report the film is set for an April 15, 2011 release.

• Clash of the Titans opens tomorrow in the US & UK with sneak previews tonight in select theaters! The world premiere was held in London last week and I have uploaded pictures to the Premieres Gallery.

• As a birthday 'thank you' to all of our Mads friends out there I made some new wallpapers, and then decided to upload most of my collection of them to a new Wallpapers album in the Gallery. Here are a couple of the newest ones:

• Things are gearing up for the release of Clash of the Titans on April 2nd, less than 2 weeks away! Collider.com has video with 10 clips from the movie, and there have been some hi-res stills from the movie released as well. You will find a few of these in the new Clash of the Titans gallery.

• There's a short video interview with Mads on the News & Interviews page where he talks about Clash of the Titans.

• The BBC has a UK release date for Valhalla Rising of March 12, while the Region 2 DVD is already available for pre-order at Amazon UK and scheduled to ship on April 26.

• In case you haven't heard, Clash of the Titans has been pushed back a week to April 2nd and is now going to be released in 3D, with a 2D release in select theaters. You can also check out the Official Website.

• There is a pretty good interview with Mads about filming Clash of the Titans at Collider.com. There is also a link to listen to the audio of the interview.

• Found a nice interview with Mads talking about filming Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky. The interview is in English, though it's from a French website and you can find it on the News & Interviews page.

• According to Screen Daily, The Door (Die Tür) won the top Aurora award at the 20th Tromso International Film Festival in Norway in January.

• According to Twitchfilm.net, it's been announced that Mads will co-star with Harvey Keitel in another movie next year. This is a remake of the horror/western Cut Throats Nine and is scheduled to begin shooting in early 2010. For more details go to News & Interviews.

10/28/09 ~

• Congratulations to Victoria of Glasgow, Scotland! Victoria is the winner of the Valhalla Rising photocard that I had Mads sign in Toronto last month.

• Mads is featured in an article in the French magazine/website Madame Figaro. The website features the article, a video interview and some great new pictures that I have uploaded to the gallery.

• Valhalla Rising will be featured as the Closing Night Gala at the Inverness Film Festival on November 15th, in Inverness, Scotland. For more details go to the festival's Facebook page.

9/30/09 ~

• In a last minute decision, I was able to attend the last day of the Toronto festival and saw both Valhalla Rising and Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky. I also had the pleasure of meeting Mads again and I had him sign a photocard I made up for Valhalla Rising, which I will give away to one lucky fan!

• With Clash of the Titans done, looks like Mads is ready to start the mobster film Clean Out with Harvey Keitel, Elliot Gould and Timothy Dalton. I believe it's to begin shooting in Winnipeg, Canada next month. I'm looking forward to more details about this one.

9/16/09 ~

• The Toronto International Film Festival is still going strong and giving us lots of Mads news. The Gala Presentation of Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky is scheduled for Thursday, 9/17 at 9:30 pm. Check out www.tiff.net for more details.

• Other good news from Toronto is that Valhalla Rising has been picked up by IFC Films for US distribution. According to Screen Daily IFC plans a 2010 release via its IFC Theaters.

• There's a great video on the News & Interviews page of one of the introductions and Q&A sessions from Valhalla Rising at TIFF.

9/10/09 ~

• The Toronto International Film Festival opens today, 9/10/09. For dates and times of Valhalla Rising and Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky see the News & Interviews page, for a complete list of other films presented and ticket information visit www.tiff.net.

• Also on the News & Interviews page, we have the first look at the upcoming Clash of the Titans with a behind the scenes featurette from MTV. It shows some great footage from the set as well as interviews with the cast. Be sure to check it out!

• I've added a few new pictures to the gallery of Mads from the Venice Film Festival last week. These are from the photocall for Valhalla Rising. The film premiered with mixed reviews in Venice, which I sort of expected, I don't think it will be everyone's cup of tea, but Todd at Twitch seemed to like it and you can find his review on the News & Interviews page, too.

• We also have a new set of photos uploaded to the Photoshoots album in the gallery. One of these is featured in our new banner at the top of the page.

8/1/09 ~

• It has been announced that Valhalla Rising will also be featured at the 66th Venice Film Festival, which is to take place September 2 - 12. This will be right before it is to be shown in Toronto, so we should be hearing much more about this film next month.

• Melisa found video of an interview with Nicolas Winding Refn discussing Valhalla Rising which is posted on the News & Interviews page.

• I have a winner from the US of the Flame & Citron poster. Congratulations to Deana from Conneticut who should be enjoying her prize as I write this! 7/15/09 ~

• The Toronto International Film Festival has just announced some of its Gala & Special Presentation films for the 2009 festival in September, and Valhalla Rising is scheduled for its World Premiere! Finally! Actual dates will not be announced until next month, but it is listed as a Special Presentation. The festival runs September 10 - 19th.

• Melisa has found more stills from The Door which I have uploaded to the Gallery. Looks like it's set for a German release in November. No word yet on other countries.

• Looks like Flame & Citron is to be shown in a limited release in the U.S. beginning July 31st. Check out IFC Films for more info. And to go along with this we'll try to give away the Flame & Citron posters again. (We had no response last time.) We have 2 posters to give away, one for North America and one for the UK.

6/30/09 ~

• Don't know if you've heard or not, but according to the Danish Film Institute website, the release of Valhalla Rising has been pushed back until March 5, 2010 now. How disappointing. I hope there's a good reason...we've waited long enough!

• Mads attended Wimbledon last week to cheer for fellow Dane, Caroline Wozniacki, who won her match against Russia's Maria Kirilenko. You can find a brief article and video on the TV2 website.

• Flame & Citron is now available on DVD in the UK. You can order it online at amazon.uk. Or if you feel lucky, enter our contest for one of three copies we have to give away!

• I would also like to welcome our new South American correspondent, Maria from Argentina! Yep, MadsOnline.net is spanning the globe to bring you the best Mads Mikkelsen coverage possible! 5/24/09 ~

• The premiere of Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky was today at Cannes and we have some great pics of Mads attending during a short break from filming . You can find them as well as links to video from the festival on the News & Interviews page.

• According to Todd at Twitch, the sales agents for The Door were shopping the film at Cannes, though they only showed the promo to buyers, he did manage to snag a still from the film. You can find it in the Gallery page.

5/23/09 ~

• We have the French trailer for Coco & Igor now on the News & Interviews page! The film closes 2009 Cannes Film Festival tomorrow, so we may see more of this soon.

5/16/09 ~

Well the 2009 Cannes Film Festival is well under way and has brought us some interesting Mads news.

• First it was announced that Sony Pictures Classics has purchased the U.S. rights to Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky, so maybe we will get to see it in theaters here. YAY!

• It was also announced that Mads Mikkelsen is to be part of an ensemble cast that includes Harvey Keitel and Elliot Gould, among others, for a new action/drama entitled Clean Out. For more details check out the News & Interviews page.

• Added a couple new pics to the Coco & Igor Gallery.

4/30/09 ~

• Various sources have reported that Clash of the Titans has begun filming at a studio outside of London. Principal photography began on April 27th and will later shoot in various locations in Wales and in the Spanish Canary Islands, predominantly on Tenerife, off the coast of Africa. Further aerial work is set to take place in the diverse locales of Ethiopia and Iceland.

4/24/09 ~

• Fresh on the news of Coco & Igor being shown at Cannes, we now have the official website online with some fabulous new stills. Check it out at ChanelStravinsky.com. I have also uploaded the new stills to the Coco & Igor Gallery.

4/23/09 ~

• Scottish actor Jamie Sives has joined the cast of Clash of the Titans. This will be the third time he has worked with Mads. This news comes thanks to Sue at Sweet On Sigma Films, who had the opportunity to interview Jamie a few days ago. For an excerpt of her interview see the News & Interviews page.

• The Cannes 2009 line up has been announced and Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky will be the closing film. The Festival runs May 13 thru 24. For a complete list of the films presented visit the official festival website at Festival-Cannes.fr.

• Mads has filmed a music video for Danish rapper Jokeren and his new single Sig Ja. I've added the video to the MiscMads pod on the Multimedia page.

4/10/09 ~

• The trailer for Valhalla Rising has finally been released! Check it out on the News & Interviews page.

• The Hollywood Reporter is now saying that Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes have joined the cast of Clash of the Titans as well. This is getting better all the time.

4/8/09 ~

• The DVD of Flame & Citron is scheduled for release in the UK on June 29, 2009. It is available for pre-order at amazon.uk. This, of course, is a Region 2 disc, so be sure you have a multi-region player if you order outside of Europe.



• Rumor has it that Coco & Igor will be presented at Cannes next month. The complete list of films has yet to be released, but I will keep you posted. It seems appropriate since we first heard of this project at the festival two years ago.

4/1/09 ~

• According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mads has signed on to play Draco in the upcoming Legendary Pictures/Warner Brothers production of Clash of the Titans, scheduled for release in March of 2010. I will pass along more details as they become available.

• Word has it that Coco & Igor is to be released in Spring/April 2009, no exact date yet, but I will let you know as soon as more details become available.

• I also read that Mads' German film, Die Tuer (The Door), is to be presented at the European Film Market in mid-February, so we may have news on that soon, as well.

• Mads will be in London Friday, January 30th, attending a screening of the film Flame & Citron (Flammen og Citronen) The event is free but you must reserve your seat in advance. For more details see the News & Interviews page.

• I have uploaded a new photo of Mads & young actor, TJ Scott, who was a body double for the boy in Valhalla Rising The photo gives us a great look at the make-up Mads wore to become One-eye. You can see the photo in the Valhalla Rising Photo Gallery. Thanks to Louise in the UK for the photo.

Happy New Year!!

12/30/08 ~

• The new year is just about here and 2009 looks to be a great year for Mads Mikkelsen fans. Mads completed 3 movies in 2008 that are due for release in the next year, though the only one I've found a date for is Valhalla Rising which, according to the Danish Film Institute, is due to be released in Denmark August 14, 2009. No word on the dates for Die Tuer (The Door) or the Chanel & Stravinsky film. I will keep you posted though!

• Some of you may know that Mads was named the Goodwill Ambassador for Refugees United, a non-profit organization helping refugees relocate family and friends. The organization now has their international website up, and there is a bit of video with the founders and Mads explaining the idea and purpose of the website and organization.

• With the new year I am starting a new feature on the website, an idea I got from my friend Marcela who runs an Edgar Ramirez website. I will be posting monthy Mads calendar wallpapers for your computer. All wallpapers are 1280x800 resolution and I will archive them in the gallery. • The first photos from Chanel and Stravinsky have surfaced. Looks like it should be good! Check them out on the News & Interviews page.

• A new 3-disc "Collector's Edition" of Casino Royale was released recently on DVD and Blue-Ray. It has a new Extras disc with deleted scenes, but I don't believe there are any of Le Chiffre. Mads did do the voice of Le Chiffre on the latest James Bond video game, though.

10/03/08 ~

• Flame & Citron (Flammen og Citronen) was released on DVD this week in Denmark (with out English subtitles though). I have uploaded screencaps to the Gallery.

9/20/08 ~

Today is our 6th month anniversary - we came online on March 20th and have had close to 10,000 visitors! I just wanted to say thank you for joining us and I hope you'll keep checking back for the latest news. Mads has been very busy this year. He's about to start filming his 3rd film of 2008, Chanel and Stravinsky, which is supposed to start shooting next week.

• Saskia's latest video shows us a glimpse of the Viking longship used in Valhalla Rising on the Video Diary page. It's in the background as NWR is talking about kilts and such. LOL! But it's the first bit we've seen of it.

• More photos from Valhalla Rising are up on the News & Interviews page! WOW!! I can't wait for this movie! A warning for the squeamish...some pictures are a bit graphic.

• I would also like to welcome our new staff member, Kia, our new Scandanavian correspondent who will be keeping us updated on Mads news from Denmark & Sweden. We will be getting some gallery updates from her soon. (As soon as I upload the photos!)

• We have a new Valhalla Rising page featuring the video diary of Saskia, an assistant to director, Nicolas Winding Refn. Saskia gives a rare peek behind the scenes of a movie set and we may even get a few glimpses of Mads, too. So be sure to check out her Video Diary page!

• I've updated the Filmography page with a few more films. You can find individual pages for After the Wedding, Adam's Apples and Pusher 2. These are still under construction but they have the links, photos and videos.

Well, it has been a bit quiet for the last month, but we have some exciting news -

• First of all, you may have noticed the little award button at the left. MadsOnline.net has been chosen as the Celebrity Site of the Day by Celebrity Links and will be the featured site on July 15, 2008.

• Even more exciting than that, is the fact that filming has begun on Valhalla Rising! This film has been a long time coming and I was beginning to wonder if it was ever going to happen. But we have been informed that Mads and crew are braving the elements in the Scottish Highlands and this film is finally being made. Which leads me to the next bit of news...

• Staff member Jacqui has been in contact with Johnny, an extra in Valhalla Rising, and he has agreed to keep us updated and given his permission to post the news here. You can find his first report on our new Valhalla Rising ~ On Set page.

Sorry for the lack of updates! It's been a bit slow on Mads news...but he has finished filming Past Perfect (Die Tuer/The Door) in Germany and word has it is finally about to begin the long talked about Valhalla Rising.
