Written and directed by Pablo Berger, this Spanish comedy takes place in 1973 and tells the
comical tale of Alfredo (Javier Camara) a door to door encyclopaedia salesman and his devoted
wife Carmen (Candela Pena).
Broke, weary and with the publishing company he works for under threat of bankruptcy, Alfredo receives a
surprising proposal from his employer that could be the answer to all his problems.
Forget the books - the future of Montoya Publishing is film! Packed off with 8mm camera in hand
and promises of a lucrative future, Alfredo and Carmen are persuaded to make their own “Scandinavian Encyclopaedia
of Reproduction” films – in reality, proving to be nothing more than a pseudonym for porn set for the Scandinavian market.
The business thrives, Alfredo’s passion for filmmaking unleashes a desire to create a
‘Bergmanesque’ erotic masterpiece and Carmen has unwittingly become a huge sex symbol in Denmark.
Enter the Danish film crew willing to help make Alfredo’s dreams come true and along with them, the gorgeous porn star Magnus
(Mads Mikkelsen) who, as part of the deal, they want to be Carmen’s leading man!
A thoroughly entertaining comedy which is at times, just as moving and poignant, as it is hilarious.
