Directed by Ole Bornedal.
Co-starring:
Maria Bonnevie, Gerard Depardieu, Christopher Eccleston.
Here we have Mads in perhaps one of his finest and most powerful supporting roles. One of only a handful of his movies shot in the English language,
this hauntingly beautiful and somewhat disturbing tale is set in 1860’s Norway, with Mads portraying Niels, the son of a wealthy Port owner, Jacob
(Depardieu).
When Jacob brings home his new bride - the wild, beautiful and dangerously eccentric, Dina (Bonnevie) –
Niels, who is as surreptitiously attracted to his new young Stepmother as he is resentful of her, soon finds his
life and passionate dreams of the future irreparably tainted by her arrival.
Visually spectacular, poignant and disturbing, this unique film, the story of Dina and the fate of all those whose paths
she crosses, will stay with you long after the credits roll.
It is based on the 1989 book Dinas bok (Dina's Book) by Herbjørg Wassmo.
