Born 22nd November 1965 in the district of Østerbro, Copenhagen, Denmark,
Mads Dittman Mikkelsen - former dancer, gymnast and denture delivery boy - finally got the break he deserved,
when he was cast in the supporting role as 'Tonny' a small time thug and low-life junkie,
in Nicolas Winding Refn’s brutal 1996 masterpiece Pusher. A role he would return to some ten years later.
From there on, Mads would go on to prove himself to be the ultimate icon to the great success of Danish cinema over the last 12 years,
starring in such roles as lovable, gun-toting psycho, 'Arne' in Anders Thomas Jensons superb black comedy Flickering Lights.
Adulterous doctor, 'Niels' in Susanne Bier’s heart wrenching story of love, loss and betrayal Open Hearts - to a folically challenged,
murderous butcher with a tendency to sweat profusely over his meatballs and marinade, 'Svend', in another of Jenson’s fabulous black comedy’s
The Green Butchers. To name but a few.
Breaking out of the Danish film market, Mads landed the crucial role of 'Tristan' in the Fuqua/Bruckheimer 2004 epic King Arthur .
A relatively minor role, but nonetheless, one that brought him rave reviews and certainly caught the attention of the audience and is ultimately
responsible for his now considerable international fan base.
As Mads success goes from strength to strength and he continues to gives us such incredible performances as 'Niel's (I Am Dina),
'Le Chiffre' (Casino Royale), 'Christoffer' (Prague) and 'Jacob' (After The Wedding),
we can be safe in the knowledge that this man still has an awful lot to give and will never want for work,
whichever side of the pond it happens to be.
Mads is married to Hanne and has two children, Viola and Carl. He is little brother to actor Lars Mikkelsen and he stands 1.82m tall.
If he could play one character from history it would be Ghengis Khan and it is his dream to one day work with Martin Scorcese - so he said!!
